Mkhwanazi says he is prepared to die in the fight against crime.
The general further stated there is political interference in police investigations.
He questioned the decision to disband the political killings task team during a briefing on policing in the province
Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Ian Cameron said his statements came as a "massive shock".
"We all know that there are serious irregularities within parts of the South African Police Service but the way this was done today was unprecedented. I've never seen someone do such a press briefing; it is a damning indictment if ever proved to be accurate on the SAPS management, possibly the Ministry too and it goes to show there is a much bigger fight in the SAPS management than what we realise," he said.
