Kenya Power Announces Areas to Experience Electricity Shutdown on Monday, January 27

- The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned power interruptions in various areas across three counties on Monday, January 27.

In a notice on its website, Kenya Power said the planned interruption is due to the scheduled maintenance in the affected areas.

According to KPLC, the planned maintenance is meant to upgrade lines in the network, connect new customers or replace power lines during road construction.

"Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules That the electricity supply will be interrupted as here under: (It is necessary to interrupt supply periodically in order to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network; to connect new customers or to replace power lines during road construction, etc.)" Kenya Power said.

The outages, which are part of scheduled maintenance, will last for at most eight hours, starting at 9am in some regions.

KPLC has apologised for the inconvenience caused and provided a detailed breakdown of affected areas.

Area: Kahawa West, Githurai 44 (9am-5pm)

Zimmerman, Parts of Githurai 44, Kahawa Barracks, Part of Kenyatta University, Part of Kahawa West, Farmers Choice and adjacent customers.

Area: Nairobi West (9am-5pm)

Part of Nairobi West, Naimey Road, ICC Church, Ghandi Avenue, Nairobi West Hosp, Kodi Rd, Swara Crescent, PAA Crescent, Kifaru Crescent, Sumba Rd, Msufu Rd, Rio Htl, Part of Muhoho Avenue, Ole Sangale Road, Madaraka Est, Gakuri Akure Road, Strathmore University, Keri Rd, Nyayo Stadium, Masaba Rd, Part of Bunyala Rd, Siwaka Estate, and adjacent customers.

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) urged customers who rely on electricity bills to claim Value Added Tax (VAT) refunds to update their records to streamline the process.

Required documents include an email address, telephone number, postal address, and a copy of the KRA PIN, among others.

The utility company assured customers that the information would be securely stored and used exclusively for VAT return purposes.
