Published 5 days ago3 minute read

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is planning to build new weighbridge stations at Isinya along the Athi River–Namanga (A) Road in Kajiado County and at Suswa along the Narok–Mai Mahiu (B7) Road in Nakuru County.

To support this program, the National Land Commission (NLC) has announced its intention to acquire land in the affected regions.

The commission will also make adjustments to certain parcels of land as part of the project. Impacted landowners have been encouraged to visit its offices in Nairobi or the County Coordinator’s Office in Kajiado for detailed information.

To achieve the construction of the static weighbridge at Isinya in Kajiado, the government seeks to amend the details of approximately 0.89 hectares in Kaputei, Kajiado North to build the same.

Similarly, the NLC confirmed that the government will acquire specific parcels of land for the construction of a static weighbridge at Suswa.

All affected landowners have been advised to submit a written claim for compensation to the National Land Commission (NLC), along with copies of their national identity cards, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN), land ownership documents, and bank account details.

"Every person interested in the affected land is required to submit a written claim for compensation to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry. The submission should include a copy of their identity card (ID), Personal Identification Number (PIN), land ownership documents, and bank account details," the notice added.

The government has been actively working to enhance road safety by constructing new weighbridges across the country.

In February, Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir announced measures to improve monitoring and enforcement. He announced the installation of 28 additional weighbridges, comprising both virtual and static stations.
