His decision not to seek re-election as the Ruangwa Member of Parliament in the 2025 General Election has indeed set the centre stage for transition in Tanzanian politics.
According to a report by BBC, the legislator had earlier affirmed his intention to defend his seat for the fourth time before announcing his change of plans on Wednesday, June 2.
The 64-year-old politician was appointed as the Tanzanian prime minister in 2015 and has continued to hold the position while working closely with President Samia Suluhu.
Majaliwa, who had been representing the Ruangwa constituency since the year 2010, stated that God was involved in his decision, which he made in good faith.
"It is time to allow other politicians to build and unite on the development foundation we have already established," Majaliwa said.
He did not give any more reasons as to why he made the decision to pull out from the next election race by quitting active politics.
The politician's decision to withdraw from active politics has sparked speculations about the likelihood of a power struggle within the ruling party, which is the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
He, however, affirmed his commitment to supporting President Suluhu's presidential bid in the upcoming elections as he continues serving as a CCM senior official.
