Kannur airport records 40.4C, highest max temp in country | Kochi News - The Times of India
Kochi: Kannur airport recorded the highest maximum temperature in the country on Monday. According to India meteorological department (IMD) data, it is 4C above its normal. A warning for 2-3C rise in maximum temperature in state has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday.
While temperatures soar in north Kerala, there's an isolated rainfall warning for south Kerala on Friday and Saturday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta are on yellow alert on Friday. Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely at one or two places in Kerala on Thursday and Friday. Light to moderate northeasterlies prevail over Kerala in the lower tropospheric levels.
Kannur city recorded 39C against its normal of 34.6, which is 4.4C above its normal on Monday. Kottayam saw a nearly 3 rise at 37.3C against the normal 34.5C. Cial Kochi recorded 36.8C, a nearly 2 rise above normal. Vellanikkara recorded 37, a 1.4C rise above normal. IMD said that maximum temperatures are in the range of 35-39C in the south peninsula.
Maximum temperature rose appreciably in Kozhikode and Thrissur on Sunday, while minimum temperature rose in Palakkad, Kannur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Thrissur districts. Vellanikkara recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37.7C. Punalur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 20.5C.
