The Heat is On: IMD Extends Yellow Alert For Goa Till March 7 | Goa News - The Times of India
Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the yellow alert for heat in Goa until March 7, warning of continued hot and humid conditions. The yellow alert was initially issued until March 5.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures are likely to range between 35°C and 37°C. The IMD also forecasts that the maximum temperature will likely stay within the same range over the next seven days.
In the coming 24 hours, the IMD anticipates that the maximum temperature will reach approximately 37°C, with minimum temperatures around 24°C. While these conditions are not extreme, the heat continues to pose a moderate health concern, particularly for vulner
able groups such as infants, the elderly, and individuals with chronic health conditions.
The IMD advisory highlights several risks associated with the hot weather, including the possibility of dehydration, heat cramps, and heat rashes. The public is urged to exercise caution, especially during peak daytime hours between 11 am and 3 pm, when the temperatures are at their highest.
Dry weather conditions are also expected to persist over both North and South Goa districts until March 11, with no rain forecast. This dry spell raises concerns about the possibility of dry grass fires, and the IMD has recommended that people take preventive measures when outdoors to avoid heat-related health issues and fire hazards.
Residents and tourists are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, and wear appropriate clothing to minimise the risks of heat-related illnesses.
