The summer movie season is getting close, and Fandango has revealed what is, at the moment, the most anticipated movie of the summer, and the result may surprise you. 2025 is set to be a big summer movie season, with most eyes on the July battle between Warner Bros. and DC's Superman against Disney and Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which both come out just two weeks apart. Combine that with a Tom Cruise vs Stitch rematch on Memorial Day weekend and potential original hits like F1, Elio, and Materialists; there are a lot of choices this summer at the movies.

According to a poll conducted by Fandango, Jurassic World: Rebirth is the most anticipated movie of summer 2025, based on a survey of 3,500 ticket buyers. Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts* claim the number two and five slots, while DC Studios' Superman holds at number four. Other notable films on the list include sequels like Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (three), From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (six), 28 Years Later (seven), and Freakier Friday (ten). Meanwhile, the live-action remakes of Chris Sanders' animated films How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch took the eighth and ninth spots, respectively. Take a look at the top ten below.

Some notable titles missing from the list include Brad Pitt-starring F1, Pixar's Elio, and Sony Pictures' The Karate Kid: Legends. Other interesting trends to note is that 28 Years Later is the only horror film to make the Top 10, beating out other horror sequels like Final Destination Bloodlines (May 16), M3GAN 2.0 (Jun. 27), and the next entry in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise (Jul.18). The first three months of the summer break down evenly with May, June, and July each having three films, while August has one film, Freakier Friday.

It is worth noting that just because a movie ranks here on Fandango's list does not always mean it will be one of the summer's biggest movies. While 2024's Summer Movie preview winner Deadpool & Wolverine did make $1.3 billion worldwide, it did come in second place at the box office behind Inside Out 2, which ranked number five on Fandango's summer movie list. Meanwhile, titles like The Fall Guy, The Garfield Movie, The Watchers, and Borderlands all ranked in Fandango's Most Anticipated Summer Movies of 2024 and all failed to make the top 10 highest-grossing movies that summer. Other titles like Twisters, Alien: Romulus, and IF did not rank in Fandango's polls.

While Jurassic World: Rebirth is likely to be a big hit this summer, the race for number one is far from over. Even though conventional wisdom would suggest Jurassic World: Rebirth, the franchise has not always been bulletproof. Notably, in 2001, Jurassic Park III was outgrossed by other summer movies like Shrek, The Mummy Returns, Rush Hour 2, and Pearl Harbor. Superman of The Fantastic Four: First Steps could come out swinging in the following months as their marketing campaign grows. Even the recent trailer numbers for Lilo & Stitch might suggest the movie will have a higher place at the box office than these numbers imply. CinemaCon is just around the corner, and new trailers for some of the summer's biggest movies are about to drop, which could shift public perception.
