Juja MP George Koimburi was on Sunday captured by unknown individuals outside a church in Kiambu County, just hours after his supporters demanded that security agencies reveal the legislator’s whereabouts.
Koimburi was reportedly arrested while leaving the church in Mugutha, and his wife was injured during the scuffle.
Video footage of the incident shows the MP being driven away in a silver Subaru Forester bearing civilian registration plates.
The latest comes in the backdrop of escalating tension between leaders of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP party and the government.
Koimburi’s arrest follows Saturday's chaos during a DCP party meeting in Kakamega, where police officers disrupted the event and clashed with party leaders, including Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala.
Gachagua claims that it is evident the government is targeting supporters of the party in an attempt to sabotage their campaign against the government.
