One of the awardees for the just-ended 2025 Joy News Impact Makers Awards, Osei Boateng of OKB Hope Foundation, has been selected among the 10 finalists for the 2025 Global Citizen Waislitz Awards.

He stands the chance of winning the $100,000 Global Citizen Waislitz Choice Award if he emerges among the top three after a vote.

Osei Boateng is the only Ghanaian who made it to this year’s list, and he’s competing with 8 other Africans and a Vietnamese.

The Global Citizen platform mobilises millions of people and convenes across sectors, business, entertainment, policy, government, and philanthropy, to drive tangible policy change and financial investments to defeat poverty and defend the planet.

Osei Boateng, founder of OKB Hope Foundation, is expanding access to preventive and primary healthcare in underserved communities in Ghana.

His mobile medical unit has reached 80 villages and 10 prisons, delivering free screenings, diagnoses, and treatments to over 10,000 people.

He also founded Wohohiame Wellness, a mental health initiative offering counselling, wellness clubs, and an AI-powered mental health assistant called HeyAkua.

Raised in a rural community and trained in health administration, Osei is motivated by personal experiences. He funds his work through grants, partnerships, and individual donors.

His goal is to build a proactive healthcare system where no one is excluded due to income or location.

Osei envisions shifting healthcare from a reactive to a proactive approach.

If awarded the Waislitz Global Citizen Award, he plans to expand the mobile fleet, reach more remote areas, and scale a proven, life-saving model that ensures no one is left behind due to geography.

In an interview with , Osei Boateng said the latest recognition by the Global Citizen Waislitz Awards confirms the value of the work his foundation engages in.

“Being named one of the 10 Impact Makers in Ghana by JoyNews was a deeply humbling moment. It affirmed that the work we’re doing through OKB Hope Foundation is being felt at home. This latest recognition by the Global Citizen Waislitz Awards takes it to another level. It’s not just about me, it’s about the thousands of lives we’ve touched in rural and underserved communities in Ghana. It’s a reminder that even in places often overlooked, powerful change is happening, and now, the world is taking notice. This recognition is a celebration of every volunteer, healthcare provider, and supporter who has believed in our mission from the beginning.”

He noted that winning the $100,000 prize money will help the foundation expand its operations to benefit more people.

“Winning the $100,000 prize would be transformational. It would allow us to expand our fleet of mobile medical vans, reach more remote communities. It would also help us scale our mental health initiative, especially in high schools, where young people are silently battling stress, anxiety, and depression. We know the need is great, and with this support, we can take a significant step toward closing the healthcare gap in Ghana, one community at a time.”

The OKB Foundation founder thus appealed to Ghanaians to vote massively for him to emerge as one of the three winners of the prize money.
