Johnnie Walker Blonde: A smooth new era of whisky begins

Published 9 hours ago3 minute read

If you were anywhere near Rehab Beach Club this past weekend, you probably felt it, the vibe was different. It was smooth, bold, and unmistakably Johnnie Walker Blonde. That’s because Johnnie Walker, the world’s No. 1 Scotch whisky, just launched its newest variant, Johnnie Walker Blonde, right here in Ghana and they did it with a bang during World Whisky Weekend with some of Ghana’s biggest influencers and culture shapers all coming together to enjoy a fresh, unexpected take on whisky.

From the very beginning, it was clear this launch was setting a new standard for whisky events. Abena Chrappah, Senior Brand Manager for Spirits at Guinness Ghana, put it perfectly: “We want this launch to show what Johnnie Walker Blonde really is, lively, different from what you would expect, and all about bringing people together.”

Yaa Amoah-Owusu, Marketing Manager at Guinness Ghana, shared why Blonde isn’t just another bottle on the shelf:Johnnie Walker Blonde is not a replacement. It’s an addition, an invitation to more people to join the whisky conversation.”

So, what makes Johnnie Walker Blonde different? Michael Acheampong, Innovations Marketing Manager, broke it down:“It brings something new to the category, smooth, sweet, easy on the palate. It opens whisky to new drinkers without losing the Johnnie Walker character. “That’s a bold move.

Before the big launch night, select distributors and retail partners were given an exclusive first taste. On May 13th, they took part in a special trade immersion event led by Caesar Mafando, CPA Manager for E-commerce. He described Johnnie Walker Blonde as the perfect choice for those looking for a lighter, approachable whisky whether enjoyed neat, over ice, or mixed with a splash of citrus, it offers a refreshingly different experience.

The event celebrated Ghanaian creativity. Afrobeats star Olive the Boy got the crowd singing and swaying. Then DJ Lord OTB, two-time Guinness Ghana DJ of the Year, took over and turned the place into a proper party. A fashion runway added flair, showcasing styles as bold and bright as the new drink.

This launch is also part of Guinness Ghana’s bigger plan to grow and change with the times. It’s about making whisky feel more fun and welcoming for everyone, especially younger people and new drinkers. By teaming up with local creatives and turning the spotlight on Ghanaian culture, we’re showing that great whisky can be bold, fresh, and proudly African.

When it was time to raise a glass, Felicite Nson, Managing Director of Guinness Ghana, led the moment with a powerful toast: “Here’s to greatness. Here’s to smoothness. And here’s to progress. With Johnnie Walker Blonde, we walk boldly into a new era and we’re proud to begin that journey here in Ghana.”

Johnnie Walker Blonde is now officially available in Ghana in 750ml bottles. And yes it’s made to mix, made to sip, and made to spark conversatio
