The directorial debut of Joe Cornish, who also co-wrote The Adventures of Tintin and the first Ant-Man, the sci-fi feature follows a group of delinquent teens who must fight back when monstrous aliens invade their neighborhood.

Despite being a box office disappointment on original release, grossing $6 million on a $13 million budget, the film received strong critical praise, with a 91% Certified Fresh Tomatometer score and a 75% Audeience Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes, being praised for its mixture of practical effects, horror, and social commentary, with comparisons being made to 80s and 90s teen adventures such as The Goonies, Super 8, The Faculty, The Lost Boys, and even more adult fare such as John Carpenter’s Assault On Precinct 13.

The project is now available to stream again on the Hulu platform, following its removal from Max at the end of last year.

Discussions of a long-gestating sequel are also on the table, with Boyega hinting:

“…I’ve read it. Joe Cornish has done a phenomenal job on his draft. And we’re just cooking it to make it right for everyone…But I’m very passionate and very willing that we will shoot Attack the Block 2. It will happen.”

Along with Boyega, Attack The Block also stars Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker, Nick Frost, Franz Drameh, Luke Treadaway, and Alex Esmail.
