A 36-year-old man, Foster Nyarko, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of unlawful entry and theft at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment.
Nyarko, who had visited the ministry seeking a cleaning job, was convicted by an Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to the charges.
Court Ruling and Prior Offenses
Presiding judge Basilia Adjei-Tawiah sentenced him to:
One year for unlawful entry
Two years for theft
Both sentences will run concurrently.
This is not Nyarko’s first offense. Earlier this year, he was also jailed for stealing a mobile phone at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) while job hunting.
How the Theft Happened
According to the prosecution:
The complainant, a lawyer at the Ministry, left his office on December 4, 2024.
Instead of heading to the Human Resource Director, as instructed, Nyarko sneaked into the office of the Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
He stole an HP laptop worth GH₵24,745, concealed it in his backpack, and left the premises.
Nyarko was later arrested following an investigation, where he confessed to selling the laptop to an unknown buyer in Takoradi.
