IU Basketball: Alumni Team & 2025-26 Roster Outlook

The Indiana University (IU) basketball team is solidifying its roster for the 2025-26 season, marked by significant transfer portal activity and the potential return of key players. After securing 10 transfer portal commitments in just 27 days, Coach Darian DeVries and his staff have assembled a highly-rated transfer class. The team is now only a couple of players away from reaching the projected roster size of 13 scholarship players.

Among those seeking to return are Luke Goode and Anthony Leal, both of whom are applying for an additional season of eligibility. Goode, a Fort Wayne native, averaged 9.1 points and 3.1 rebounds last season, shooting 39.2 percent from 3-point range. He played in less than 30 percent of games in the 2022-23 season at Illinois but returned for the final 10 games, using his eligibility for that season. Goode has applied for a waiver from the NCAA to gain another year, and approval would provide additional depth on the wing.

Anthony Leal, the 2020 Mr. Basketball from Bloomington South, is also seeking an additional season. He has appeared in 95 games over five seasons, averaging 2.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Leal is attempting to regain the 2022-23 season, during which he played in only 11 games due to injuries, logging a total of 24 minutes. Whether the NCAA will grant his request remains uncertain.

Beyond Goode and Leal, the coaching staff may consider adding a developmental freshman or another portal player to build for the future. The IU roster currently has five players with eligibility remaining beyond next season: Nick Dorn, Jason Drake, Jasai Miles, Josh Harris, and Trent Sisley. Though the transfer portal closed on April 22, the possibility of a portal player emerging as a target remains open.

In related news, Assembly Ball, IU basketball’s alumni team, is returning to The Basketball Tournament (TBT) this summer. After debuting last year and reaching the third round, Assembly Ball will once again play at Hinkle Fieldhouse as the host of the Indianapolis Regional from July 19-22. Yogi Ferrell, a returning player, will be joined by James Blackmon Jr., who will be making his TBT debut. The winner of the Indianapolis Regional will advance to the TBT Quarterfinals on July 29, with the semifinals on July 31 and the $1 Million Championship game on August 3.
