Jahangir specified that the dead include 132 women and 38 children. He also said the toll from an Israeli strike on Tehran’s Evin prison has climbed to 79, including inmates, visiting relatives and administrative staff.
As calm tentatively returns under a week-old ceasefire, Iran’s judiciary has disclosed the devastating human cost of its 12-day war with Israel, with state media confirming at least 935 deaths nationwide.
“During the 12-day war waged by the Zionist regime against our country, 935 martyrs have been identified so far,” the official IRNA news agency quoted judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir as saying.
Jahangir specified that the dead include 132 women and 38 children. He also said the toll from an Israeli strike on Tehran’s Evin prison has climbed to 79, including inmates, visiting relatives and administrative staff.
Israel began its intense bombing campaign on 13 June, targeting Iran’s military bases, nuclear sites and residential areas, killing senior military commanders and atomic scientists, AFP reports.
In response, Iran unleashed waves of missiles and drone attacks on major Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Haifa, which Israeli authorities say killed 28 people.
A ceasefire between the two countries has been in effect since 24 June.
