Iran: U.S. undecided as Russia warns against 'military intervention'

Published 14 hours ago3 minute read

The United States has said President Donald Trump will decide, in the next two weeks, whether it will join in the Israel-Iran conflict. But Russia warned the U.S. against taking military action on Iran.

Meanwhile, the Founder of the Silverbird Group, Ben Murray-Bruce, foresees a future global conflict, potentially another World War III, that will devastate the world, but leave Africa, and particularly Nigeria, unscathed.

Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said “eliminating” Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is one of the country’s war goals.Iranian missiles caused serious damage at four sites in central and southern Israel, including at the Soroka hospital, while Israeli forces attacked Iran’s Arak heavy water reactor.

Trump said he was still weighing his options on U.S. military intervention in the escalating hostilities. The death toll from Israel’s attacks on Iran has risen to more than 240, including 70 women and children. At least 24 people have been killed in Iranian attacks on Israel.

Russia’s foreign ministry warned U.S. after President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in a phone call condemned Israeli attacks on Iran and urged a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

Russian foreign ministry’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told reporters yesterday they would like to particularly warn Washington against military intervention in the situation.

“Any U.S. military action would be an extremely dangerous step with truly unpredictable negative consequences”, she added. Yesterday, following the leaders’ call, the Kremlin said Putin and Xi strongly condemned Israel’s actions.

A Kremlin aide, Yuri Ushakov, told reporters that Moscow and Beijing believed the end to the hostilities should be achieved exclusively by political and diplomatic means.

Xi told Putin that a ceasefire was the top priority and urged Israel to halt its attacks, Chinese state media reported. In a live interview with a Global Affairs Expert, Dane Waters, on Tuesday, Murray-Bruce stated that a war is “inevitable” due to the rise in violence, nuclear weapons, and the increasing presence of “trigger-happy” leaders across the world.

He, however, added that Nigeria’s lack of nuclear aspirations and peaceful diplomatic posture would shield the continent from the fallout of any future global conflict.

He said: “We’re in big trouble and as long as we have the kind of leaders we have in the world today, I see World War III coming and it is going to be terrible.

“The beauty of World War III is that it is not going to affect Africa. Africa will be spared. You guys are going to fight all across the world, but we are going to be safe in Nigeria.”

He went on to suggest that in the aftermath of a global war, Nigeria would be able to welcome displaced populations from the West, however, under strict visa conditions.
