INTERVIEW: Acclaimed Singer-songwriter Tristan Tritt
2025 has been a pivotal year in many ways. I have finally begun to find my sound and way in Nashville. Through many trials and errors I have found a way to blend in the most important elements of music I grew up on, while adding my own individual style to it. It’s a bit of a change in sound for the audience, but the response has been fantastic.
I have always been a huge history/ mythology nerd, especially when it comes to Ancient Greece. I saw a video on the comparison of the Cohen Bros. Classic “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” And Homer’s Odyssey. It popped in my mind to create a story based on the Greek Tragedy of Icarus, since it’s one of the oldest stories about a father and son, and turn it into a song that was reflective on my relationship with my own dad.
I came up with the concept with a producer named Brad Wagner, out in Nashville. We started with the melody and sort of hummed our way through it, while he played on the guitar. I had written a line in my notes a few weeks back that said “neck deep, head above the water. I’m too short on the shoulders of my Father.” I thought it sounded pretty cool, and with the whole Greek Mythos behind it, it was fairly simple to put the pieces together and pull off lines like “ I flew too close to the Son” during the main chorus. Once we got that done, the rest just sort of wrote itself.
While there are many talented artists and songwriters in today’s music scene, I tend to look up to those who have come before me. There are ways to convey a message without being preachy, just as there ways to sing about emotions without being “vapid”. Tom Petty has always been a massive influence in my songwriting, mainly due to his ability to discuss complex emotions that dwell within the human psyche, but in a super light (almost tongue and cheek) way. I sing and write what’s from the heart, not what’s going to “perform well” on streaming. It’s probably a horrible business model, but I sleep well at night knowing that I made something that I’ll be happy to perform night after night.
Absolutely! I am constantly adding new shows to my tour roster, so any of my social media pages will keep them informed about where I’m heading to next.
I’ve been mainly focused on singles for 2025, but I would love to get into the studio again and cut a new EP or even a full length album before the end of next year.
My Dad has always taught me and my siblings to “be able to carry a guitar in one hand and briefcase in the other, and be able to use them both well” That’s pretty damn good advice. That has become my Ethos.
Georgia is an incredible state with a ton of musical roots. Trap, Southern rock, Rap, Blues, RnB, and Country in Georgia has its own unique sound when compared to the rest of the United States. Georgians are incredibly proud and hospitable people, so there is a massive sense of pride that I carry for not only being a southerner, but from the Peach State as well. Go Braves.
It all depends, really. Usually it starts off a melody that I try to hum into my phone, in order to not forget it. I sometimes will write lyrics beforehand, but over time I’ve learned the importance of building up a melody first. It’s like building on a house that already has a foundation. It’s a hell of an easier with, than without it.
I just hope that people can hear this song and get something special from it. If my music can touch at least ONE person, then I’ve done my job. https://open.spotify.com/track/2Rp34I6xtxYOiqa9zruBDh?si=893e635a24f34572
