IndiGo Expands to Central Asia with New Mumbai Flight Routes

IndiGo is significantly expanding its international operations with the introduction of new direct flights from Mumbai to three key Central Asian capitals: Almaty (Kazakhstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Tbilisi (Georgia). This strategic move, set to commence in July 2025, aims to bolster connectivity between India and Central Asia, catering to the growing demand for travel to these culturally rich and strategically important destinations.
The new services will roll out progressively. Flights to Almaty are scheduled to begin on July 1, 2025, followed by services to Tashkent starting August 1, 2025, and flights to Tbilisi commencing on August 2, 2025. IndiGo plans to operate four weekly flights to both Almaty and Tashkent, while the Tbilisi route will see three weekly flights.
This expansion from Mumbai builds upon IndiGo's successful launch of services from Delhi to the same three Central Asian cities in 2023. The airline's strategy focuses on strengthening its presence in underserved yet rapidly growing aviation markets. By adding these Mumbai routes, IndiGo aims to provide passengers with more direct travel options and capitalize on the increasing interest in leisure, business, and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) travel to Central Asia.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed enthusiasm about the new routes, stating, “Building on the success of our Delhi – Central Asia routes, we are extremely pleased to announce direct flights to Almaty, Tashkent and Tbilisi from Mumbai, reinforcing our commitment to connecting India to the world. These routes will further enhance accessibility to these culturally rich destinations, fostering global connections and enriching tourism.”
Mumbai, a major commercial and entertainment hub, already serves as a significant base for IndiGo, connecting to over 75 domestic and international destinations with more than 1,300 weekly departures. The addition of these Central Asian routes further solidifies Mumbai's status as a key international gateway.
Each of the new destinations offers unique attractions and opportunities. Almaty, Kazakhstan, is renowned for its stunning mountain landscapes and is a growing tourist destination. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, serves as a gateway to the country's rich historical heritage and is an emerging trade hub. Tbilisi, Georgia, is rapidly gaining popularity as a vibrant center for tourism, technology start-ups, and its distinctive wine culture.
Through this expansion, IndiGo underscores its ambition to grow its international footprint beyond traditional markets, offering passengers direct and efficient travel options to emerging global cities and enhancing India's connectivity with the wider world.
