Indiana lands one of the top available shooters in the transfer portal

Indiana men’s basketball landed one of the top shooters available in the transfer portal this offseason when former Sam Houston State guard Lamar Wilkerson announced his commitment to the program on Tuesday:

Wilkerson averaged 20.5 points, 4 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 44.5% from long range in 34.9 minutes per game for the Bearkats this past season, even playing in Assembly Hall in Bloomington for a nonconference matchup.

Indiana beat out Kentucky for Wilkerson’s commitment. He was originally planning on visiting Auburn, but cancelled that visit after a weekend in which he traveled to both Bloomington and Lexington.

It’s a big win for new Indiana coach Darian DeVries, who’s assembling his first Hoosiers roster almost entirely through the transfer portal this season. Wilkerson locks in another starter alongside Tucker DeVries and, in all likelihood, Reed Bailey.

There’s still work to be done, but it’s a great start to the offseason for the Hoosiers.
