Import-Export Association Plans Manufacturing Shift Under 24-Hour Economy
In an interview with The High Street Journal, Awingobit stated the policy enables importers to become manufacturers and processors of Ghanaian goods for export.
“Importers will transform into producers and exporters of domestically viable products,” Awingobit affirmed, citing reduced import dependency as an economic stabilization measure. The strategy aligns with President John Mahama’s stated goal during the policy launch to shift from raw commodity exports to value-added production.
The association specifically referenced the Volta Economic Corridor project as infrastructure enabling this transition. Awingobit noted processing cocoa, gold, and timber locally could increase foreign exchange earnings under the current administration’s industrial framework.
The remarks follow formal policy implementation procedures under the National Democratic Congress government.
