IGP reassigns 84 top Police officers in major shake up - Radio Univers 105.7fm

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has effected some changes in the top brass of the Police hierarchy affecting about 84 Senior officers of the Service, with some brought back to the Headquarters in Accra whilst others have been  sent to outstations in other regions of the country.

Key among those affected by the new changes include Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lyander Asare who have been posted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Judicial Protection Unit respectively.

The above mentioned officers were implicated in the now infamous leaked tape scandal which was aimed at ensuring the removal from office of the  immediate Past IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

The two were made to appear before a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry set up by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kingsford Alban Sumana Bagbin to probe the staggering allegations made against their boss and also questions about their own professionalism in the Police Service. The committee later prescribed that disciplinary actions be carried out against the officers for breaching regulations of the Police Service.

Sources within the Police Service see the recent recall of both senior Officers into their new posts as a form of promotion rather than the disciplinary actions prescribed by the committee, raising legitimate concerns about the precedents it sets for other professionals in the sector.

Meanwhile, the third Senior officer caught up in the leaked tape case, COP Alex Mensah has since retired from active service, and just last week called on the new IGP to address the issues of unfair promotions in the Service as part of new reforms.
