Hot gets hotter: Heatwave alert as temp soars in a day

Mumbai: As day temperature in the city soared, a heatwave warning was issued on Monday for parts of Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad.
IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded

maximum temperature

of 37.2°C as compared to the previous day's 34.8°C, while the Colaba observatory logged 36.4°C on Monday as against 31.4°C of a day earlier. Minimum temperature also remained high, with Colaba at 23.7°C and Santacruz at 21.6°C.
Here's the forecast for Tuesday — hot and humid conditions in areas of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar.
According to IMD records, Mumbai's all-time highest temperature was 41.7°C, recorded on Mar 28, 1956. In the past decade, the city crossed the 40°C mark for the month at least four times: 40.9°C on Mar 28, 2021, 40.3°C on Mar 26, 2019, 41.0°C on March 26, 2018, and 40.8°C on March 26, 2015.
Weather enthusiast Abhijit Modak attributed the rise to a delayed sea breeze.
Rajesh Kapadia, who runs private weather blog Vagaries of the Weather, said, "An anticyclone over North Arabian Sea is leading to heatwave conditions.
