The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued warnings of ongoing moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and potentially devastating impacts.
Residents in vulnerable areas are being urged to remain alert as the risk of further flooding remains high.
In Rachuonyo North Constituency, severe flooding prompted emergency evacuations in Simbi Kogembo and Osodo villages on Tuesday, May 13.
The flooding was caused by the backflow of Lake Victoria and the overflow of River Kibuon, which burst its banks following sustained heavy rainfall.
According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, 1,428 households were affected. At least 287 families are currently sheltering at Osodo Primary School and Simbi Kogembo Dispensary after being displaced from their homes.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to assist affected families, as government agencies continue to monitor the situation.

According to KRCS, the situation remains critical as rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days.
"With moderate to heavy rains continuing, the risk of further flooding remains high in West Kenya. Counties at high risk include Kisumu, Migori, Busia, Siaya and Kakamega," said KRCS in a statement.
Meanwhile, authorities are calling on communities living near flood-prone areas and water bodies to take necessary precautions and follow safety advisories.
