5-Day Weather Alert: Weatherman Predicts Scattered Rains, Hot Days Across 6 Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across several regions from May 13 to May 17, particularly in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.

The Kenya Met has listed regions that will continue receiving rain this week.

  • However, the intensity and spread of rainfall are expected to decrease during the second half of the week.

    Daytime temperatures are projected to rise above 30°C in much of the Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western.

    In contrast, night-time temperatures may fall below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas surrounding Mt. Kilimanjaro.

    Counties: Nyandarua, Nairobi, Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Laikipia, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi.

    Morning hours will be mostly cloudy with sunny intervals and possible light rains in some areas. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in several regions.

    Night conditions will be partly cloudy with isolated showers in a few places. Temperatures will range from 6°C to 30°C.

    Counties: Samburu and Turkana.

    Counties: Isiolo, Garissa, Marsabit, Wajir, and Mandera.

    Morning hours will experience rains in a few areas, with a chance of light showers elsewhere, followed by sunny intervals across most regions.

    In the afternoon, sunny conditions will dominate, though isolated places may receive brief showers.

    Nighttime will be partly cloudy, with occasional showers expected over a few places. Temperatures will range from a high of 39°C to a low of 17°C.

    Counties: Mombasa, coastal parts of Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu.

    Morning hours will begin with showers over several places, though some areas will only experience isolated rainfall and sunny intervals.

    In the afternoon, widespread showers are expected in many regions, with a few areas likely to remain dry under sunny intervals.

    Nighttime conditions will be partly cloudy with light showers expected in some locations and a chance of isolated rainfall elsewhere.

    Temperatures are forecast to reach highs of 34°C during the day, with minimum temperatures dropping to 23°C at night.

    Counties: Kitui, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Machakos, Makueni, and inland parts of the Tana River.

    In the afternoon, a few places are likely to experience showers, while the rest will remain mostly sunny with some isolated chances of rainfall.

    Nighttime conditions will be partly cloudy with a chance of showers over a few areas. Temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 35°C and a minimum of 12°C.

    Counties: Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori, Kisumu, Kericho, Kakamega, Kisii, Narok, Nakuru, Nyamira, Nandi, West Pokot, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Busia, Bomet, Baringo, and Bungoma.

    Morning hours will feature rains over a few areas, with intermittent sunny intervals expected in some regions.

    In the afternoon, several places are likely to experience showers and thunderstorms, while a few areas may only see light rainfall.

    Nighttime conditions will be partly cloudy with showers expected over a few places and isolated chances of rainfall.

    Temperatures are projected to range between a maximum of 30°C and a minimum of 9°C.

    Meanwhile, as rains persist in several regions, Kenya Power has also announced planned power interruptions in select counties.

    According to the utility provider, the outages are intended to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of the electricity network and replace power lines affected by road construction.

    The counties affected today include Nandi, Kisumu, Nyeri, Nairobi, Kilifi, Bungoma, and Laikipia.
