High Court Upholds Expulsion Of PDP National Vice Chairman Ali Odefa | Sahara Reporters

Justice Hilary Oshomah delivered the ruling on Wednesday, affirming the decision made by the PDP's Oguduokwor Ward executive committee in Onicha Local Government Area, which had expelled Odefa in October 2024.
A Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has confirmed the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman (Southeast) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), due to allegations of anti-party activities.
Justice Hilary Oshomah delivered the ruling on Wednesday, affirming the decision made by the PDP's Oguduokwor Ward executive committee in Onicha Local Government Area, which had expelled Odefa in October 2024.
The controversy began on October 4, 2024, when the Oguduokwor Ward executive committee suspended Odefa over accusations of engaging in activities harmful to the party's interests.
Despite the suspension, Odefa continued to serve in his leadership role within the PDP, leading the ward committee to escalate the issue.
The committee established a disciplinary panel to investigate the allegations and invited Odefa to appear before it.
However, he reportedly failed to attend the proceedings, resulting in his expulsion. Seeking judicial support for their decision, the ward committee, led by Chairman Herbert Ovuta, filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abakaliki.
In the case numbered FHC/AI/CS/182/2024, Justice Oshomah ruled that the expulsion was valid and upheld all reliefs sought by the ward executive committee.
However, the court declined to grant the N5 million cost requested against Odefa.
This ruling marks a significant development in the internal affairs of the PDP in the Southeast, as political observers speculate on the potential implications for the party's leadership in the region.
Odefa, a prominent figure in the party, has yet to publicly respond to the court's decision, leaving many to wonder about his next move and its impact on the PDP's cohesion ahead of future elections.
