Hideo Kojima to Direct Film After PlayStation Game Physint

Hideo Kojima has revealed his intentions to direct a film, but not until after he completes his PlayStation game, Physint, which he estimates will take "another 5 or 6 years." Since leaving Konami, Kojima states he has received "so many offers" to direct a film.

Kojima's aspirations to direct a movie are on hold until he finishes developing Physint, his first "action espionage" game since leaving Konami in 2015. He stated that in addition to Death Stranding 2, Physint is in development and will take another five or six years. After that, he may decide to pursue filmmaking, a tribute to his love for cinema.

PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst announced Physint in January 2024. Kojima initially hinted that it would also be a movie, but later clarified that its elements are at the next level of ‘Digital Entertainment’ that could be called a ‘movie.’ This is among several projects Kojima and his studio are working on, including Death Stranding 2 and OD, a new IP in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, featuring actress Hunter Schafer and filmmaker Jordan Peele.

Kojima is also involved in A24's film adaptation of the original Death Stranding. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, is set to arrive next month on June 26. Norman Reedus teased that he would play himself in the movie. Recently, Kojima revealed he left his staff a USB stick of game ideas for after he dies.
