Withdrawal of Arrest Warrant and Police Update

The Oyo State Police Command has addressed the delay in completing the comprehensive report on the death of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet from a police officer in the Gbagi-Alakia area of Ibadan. Commissioner of Police Adenola stated that the delay is due to the need for testimony from a key witness, the deceased's father, Odunayo Alade. An interim report has been prepared, but a comprehensive report awaits Alade's statement, which the Inspector General of Police has emphasized as crucial for a thorough investigation.

The police officer involved in the shooting is in custody, and a passenger from the vehicle has provided information. However, police reports suggest the incident might have been avoided had Alade followed traffic regulations. Records indicate Alade had previous traffic violations. The police have assured the public that they will act appropriately based on the investigation's findings.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dotun Oyelade, has assured that the case will not be overlooked, emphasizing the government's commitment to justice for the grieving family. Support has been pledged to the family, along with promises of regular gun handling and civil relations training for police officers. Major Adekoya Adesagba, chairman of the Oyo State Road Management Agency (OYRTMA), has voiced concerns over increasing traffic offenses and assaults on OYRTMA officers, requesting additional security for their operations, noting eight assault cases this year alone, resulting in injuries, including broken limbs.

Kehinde Alade's father explained that he took a shortcut to ensure his son didn't miss his WAEC exam and denied driving against traffic, stating he used a normal route that was not prohibited.

In a separate matter, the High Court in Accra withdrew an arrest warrant issued for Kwasi Asante, the Director of Passports, regarding the alleged issuance of multiple passports to Dominic Williams. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Asante has been cleared of any wrongdoing, as the incident occurred before his appointment as Director of Passports in December 2024. Records show that Dominic Williams obtained his first Ghanaian passport over twelve years ago, with the most recent passport issued on January 16, 2024, eight months before Asante assumed office. The ministry thanked the court for its professional handling of the matter.
