LEGAZPI CITY—The continuous heavy rains triggered flooding in some villages in Camarines Sur on Monday afternoon, local officials said.

In Iriga City, authorities reported knee-deep floods in the villages of San Roque and San Francisco, prompting some schools to declare early dismissal of classes.

Police said floodwaters began to rise at around 3 p.m. but started to subside later in the evening.

In Naga City, Mayor Leni Robredo said 19 classrooms were submerged in floodwaters at Julian B. Meliton Elementary School in Barangay Concepcion Pequeña at 4 p.m.

Robredo said their teams were deployed to monitor the villages, especially in low-lying areas.

Mayor Fernando Simbulan of Nabua town advised the village officials to enforce pre-emptive evacuation if early signs of flooding and landslides are monitored.

At around 12:45 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Southern Luzon issued a thunderstorm advisory warning the residents of possible moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds in Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Oriental Mindoro. /coa
