Veolia Towers Hamburg has signed Zacharie Perrin, one of the top young big men in Europe, to a two-year-deal, the club announced Monday.

Perrin (2.08 meters, 20 years old) arrives from SLUC Nancy in his native France, where he posted 6.8 points and 4.3 rebounds after joining the club during the season. Perrin began the year with Antibes, where he also played in the youth teams.

Perrin left France in 2022 to attend high school in the United States and then to play college basketball at the University of Illinois, but only appeared in one game for the Fighting Illini before returning home.

In recent years Perrin has made lots of noise with the French youth teams. He was the MVP of the 2024 U20 European Championship after leading France to gold with 15.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.1 blocks, 1.0 steal per game. The year before he was second on the team in scoring as France captured the silver medal at the 2023 U19 World Cup.

"Zacharie is a great young man who is also a really good basketball player. He has already proven his talent several times, especially in the juniors. Now we want to take the next step together with him," Hamburg head coach Benka Barloschky said. "He was looking for the challenge of working out a bigger role for himself on a professional level. We will offer him the opportunity to do so in the next few years. I am very much looking forward to our cooperation and am sure that we will experience an absolutely highly motivated player."
