To effectively fight back cyber attackers, the Committee of Chief Information Security Officers of Nigerian Financial Institutions (CCISONFI) has sought the collaboration of stakeholders in the cybersecurity sector.

Chairman of CCISONFI, Festus Amede, in a statement, yesterday, noted that the committee might not effectively fight the cyber criminals alone; hence, it canvases the support of stakeholders, as more hands make light work.

Amede, during the yearly CCISONFI Conference held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, recently, had lamented the menace of cyber criminals in people’s business and personal lives, warning that cybersecurity should be treated with all seriousness from design to boardroom decisions.

He noted that the conference theme, ‘Cyber Resilience in a Disruptive World’, was nudging stakeholders to “rethink how to secure our systems, train our people, update our processes and policies and partner better with other financial and security agencies.”

Calling for the inclusion of cybersecurity studies in Nigeria’s educational curriculum, he noted: “The next generation of defenders is already here and just needs the right tools and mentorship.”

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Director of Payment System Policy, Musa Jimoh, who was the event’s keynote speaker, appealed to participants to develop cyber resilience as part of their defence mechanisms to ward off cyber threats and attacks.
The Director of the National Cyber Coordination Security Centre (NIGCERT), Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Bello Hayatudeen, represented by Daniel Onyekpeze, restated the call for collaboration among stakeholders in building resilience against cyber attacks and cybercriminals.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, noted that cyber threats grew on an unprecedented scale; hence, organisations faced challenges in protecting their data in 2025 and warned that cyber resilience was now essential in businesses.
