Group Hails Tinubu Over Successes In Tackling Insecurity

Published 1 week ago4 minute read

The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM) has lauded the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as “significant and commendable strides” in restoring peace and security to northern Nigeria, once plagued by insurgency and rampant criminality.

The group particularly highlighted the Ministry of Defence’s, under Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, role in implementing high-impact, tech-enabled security operations across the North West and North Central zones.

In a statement issued by Lauretta Bako, Convener of AJAM, the group acknowledged the dramatic improvement in the region’s security landscape, crediting the administration’s strategic military operations, technology-driven security reforms, and coordinated national efforts for progress.

He said: “Today, we stand in a vastly improved security landscape, where Boko Haram has been pushed into enclaves, and the leaders of kidnappers and bandits have been neutralized, with many forced into hiding.

“The ongoing efforts by the Defence Ministry under Minister Badaru Abubakar to enhance Nigeria’s operational posture in the North West and North Central Zones through the deployment of high-tech combat enablers and strategic military operations have yielded significant dividends.

“The successes recorded in neutralising bandits, terrorists, and criminal networks, coupled with the revitalisation of local economies, illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.

“The introduction of high-tech combat enablers has been pivotal in enhancing the operational effectiveness of Nigeria’s security forces. These advanced technologies have allowed for more precise intelligence gathering, improved surveillance, and more effective engagement with criminal elements.

A cornerstone of these gains is Operation FANSAR YAMMA, which has achieved significant successes, including the elimination of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Dogo Isah and 44 other terrorists in Zamfara State during coordinated air and ground assaults.”

He added, “The killing of high-profile criminals, including gun runners and bandit leaders, has not only dismantled key networks of violence but has also sent a strong message to remaining criminal elements that the state is resolute in its fight against insecurity.

“Moreover, the expansion of Operation WHIRL STROKE to include parts of Taraba State has further solidified the security framework in the region. This operation has become instrumental in addressing the complex criminal activities plaguing the North Central Zone. The synergy between various security agencies, inspired by the Hope Agenda, has enhanced operational coordination, leading to the successful arrest of numerous criminals and the rescue of hostages.

“The establishment of the National Mission Force Brigade in Samaru Kataf has also played a crucial role in addressing security challenges in Southern Kaduna, leading to improved socio-economic conditions in the area. The statistics speak volumes: during the first quarter of 2025 alone, 122 extremists were eliminated, and over 1,000 criminals were arrested, showcasing the renewed vigour in Nigeria’s security operations.

“The impact of these enhanced security measures extends beyond mere statistics; it has tangible effects on citizens’ daily lives. Highways once considered perilous, such as the Kaduna-Abuja route, are now safer for commuters, facilitating trade and travel.

“Markets in areas like Giwa, Birnin Gwari, and Jibia are experiencing a resurgence, as local leaders and the general public attest to the improved security climate. This revival of economic activity directly results from the operational successes achieved through targeted military actions and the establishment of a secure environment for business to thrive.

“Furthermore, the operational achievements in the North West and North Central Zones are not just limited to high-profile arrests and neutralizations; they also include the discovery and dismantling of criminal infrastructures. The identification of gun-making factories in Plateau State and the apprehension of individuals linked to high-profile gunrunning syndicates demonstrate a comprehensive approach to tackling the root causes of insecurity. The capture of notorious kidnappers and cult leaders further underscores the commitment of Nigeria’s security forces to restore law and order.

“While some may downplay the importance of these successes from the comfort of their distant locales, we, the people of the North, understand the profound implications of this progress. We are acutely aware of the sacrifices made by our gallant troops who have fought valiantly to reclaim our territories and restore a sense of normalcy. The change in administration in 2013 marked a pivotal moment in our fight against insecurity, and the subsequent actions taken by the current government have reaffirmed our faith in the possibility of peace and stability in our beloved region.

“As the Arewa Joint Action Movement, we stand united in our support for the ongoing efforts by the Defence Ministry to secure our communities and restore hope to our people. We acknowledge that while challenges remain, the path forward is illuminated by the successes we have witnessed. Together, we will continue to advocate for policies and actions that promote lasting peace, security, and development in Northern Nigeria.”
