The IRUKA Africa Foundation has launched its SheIgnite initiative targeted at equipping young girls with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take on leadership roles and effect meaningful change in their communities and beyond.

The campaign, which focused on three selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is aimed at expanding across all 12 African countries where IRUKA operates, with the ambitious goal of empowering one million girls by 2030.

Speaking during the launch of the campaign at the Jagunmolu Senior Girls’ Grammar School in Lagos, the Founder of IRUKA Africa Foundation, Amarachukwu Nwokokoro, said that the idea behind the project was to introduce students to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while highlighting IRUKA’s primary focus areas: SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

She noted that the foundation is a non-profit organisation championing sustainable growth, empowerment, and development across Africa with a focus on education, gender equality, policy and advocacy, and social responsibility.

She said: “SheIgnite is more than a program; it is a movement to empower young girls to become leaders and change-makers. By providing tools, knowledge, and a safe space to grow, we aim to inspire a generation of women who will shape Africa’s future. Every girl here today has the potential to transform her community—and we are here to nurture that potential.”

She further emphasised that the SheIgnite is designed to educate, empower, and inspire young girls across leadership education, hygiene awareness as well as consent education which deals with speaking up against harassment.

The event was graced by members within the IRUKA community, who include Executive Assistant to the Founder, Muorah Chinecherem; IRUKA Nigeria Country Lead, Iromidayo Iseyemi and a team of passionate volunteers, including Olawunmi Ogundipe, Elizabeth Precious Adeyi, and Egbafolohun Aaleeyah Morayo.
