The benga singer's son is reported to have gone missing on March 18, 2025, only for his body to be found in Gatanga a couple of days ago.

On his official Facebook page, the singer wrote a tearjerking message, wondering why anyone would hurt his son, saying this was a difficult time for him and his family.

"Kigio people, did I ever do anything wrong to you? Why did anyone do this to me? God knows everything," he heartbreakingly wrote.

In another post, he shared a photo of his son and mourned him.

"Rest in peace, dear son. May God keep your soul in peace forever. Amen Amen!

His fellow musicians and supporters have since taken to social media to console Kigia. Here are some of the comments:

Zulu Thiong'o said:

"My heart goes out to my brother Peter Kigia wa Esther following the demise of his son Ken Kìrehù. Ken has been missing since 18th March, and his body was discovered around Kigio area in Gatanga Constituency. To the entire Kìrehù family, may the Lord comfort you."

Mercy Wachira said:

"Woooiye. It's not long since he also lost his daughter. May God give them comfort and peace that surpasses human understanding."

Ken Kim said:

"He buried his daughter a few years ago, and now the son, poleni sana."

Eric Kinoti said:

"May God give you strength and peace during this difficult moment, rest in our beloved."

Two years ago, the benga singer also lost his daughter, throwing him into mourning.

He penned a moving tribute in her honour, breaking the hearts of his fans and fellow parents who admitted that losing a child is so painful.

"Gone too soon, my daughter, it's hard to believe you are no more, but let God's will be done, rest well till we meet again, Immaculate Wangui Kigia," he posted in 2023.

Kenyans heartwarmingly comforted him back then, wishing him strength at that tough time.

Peter Kigia Wa Esther is a veteran Kikuyu benga singer who has been a prominent figure in the Kikuyu entertainment scene for more than three decades.

Born and raised in Gatanga, Murang'a county, he has remained an active and influential personality in the Kikuyu entertainment world.

He is famous for some of the hit songs, such as Reke Tumanwo (Let's break up), Gacheri, Njeri Gaitu (Our Njeri), among others, released over the past decades.

Additionally, Kigia was a close friend of the late Kikuyu benga legend John De'Mathew, and they often collaborated and supported each other in their musical endeavours.

De'Mathew died in 2019 in a tragic road accident in Thika.

Kigia Wa Esther has mentored and supported numerous upcoming Kikuyu artists, and he owns the label 'Kigia Records'.

In previous elections, he was instrumental in the writing and composition of songs for campaigns aimed at consolidating the Mt Kenya vote.

Now, in his elderly years, the celebrated singer has been in the limelight over the tragic deaths of his two children.

In other news, the Kikuyu entertainment scene was also hit by a great loss following the sudden death of beloved actress Esther Wanyuru, who passed on a fortnight ago.

Wanyuru, an actress and comedian who played in the Machang'i comedy series, died in mysterious circumstances.

Her family said she arrived home excited to plan for her loved one's birthday party. She then excused herself to go to the washroom.

Moments later, she was found dead in the washroom.
