Accra, Feb.24, GNA – Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, the Minister of State-designate for Public Sector Reforms, says the Government will strengthen the various digital platforms started by the immediate past government to make the public sector efficient and productive.

She thus pledged to leverage digital technology to minimise bureaucratic bottlenecks and corrupt practices within the public sector to enhance transparency and accountability.

The nominee acknowledged the various digital platforms and e-governance systems put in place by the previous governments to enhance service delivery in the public sector.

Madam Lamisi Akanvariba, also the Member of Parliament for Tempane in the Upper East Region, gave the assurance when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, on Monday, for vetting.

The vetting is intended to scrutinize the ministerial nominee’s expertise and competencies to handle the ministry he or she is nominated to head.

Madam Lamisi Akanvariba said she would work collaboratively with other sector ministries to improve productivity and enhance service delivery in the public sector.

She also pledged to re-orient and motivate workers in the public sector to give of their best and provide the necessary incentives to deserving staff to motivate them.

Asked about a phenomenon where the new administration dismissed employees recruited by the immediate past government, the nominee proposed a national dialogue to engage all the relevant stakeholders on how to hire personnel into the public sector.

She believed that a collective agreement by the country on how to recruit personnel into the security services would help minimize the controversy surrounding the matter.

Madam Lamisi Akanvariba believed that with political will and provision of adequate resources, she would help implement President Mahama’s vision to reform the public sector.
