President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government, under his leadership, will work with the private sector to build a cashew processing factory in the Bono Region.
Speaking during his ‘Thank You tour’ in Sunyani on Friday, May 30, 2025, President Mahama said the factory will help boost the local economy and create jobs for the people in the area.
“Cashew is not just a crop. It is a livelihood for many of our people. It puts food on the table, sends children to school, and drives our rural economy,” he said.
He added that the cashew industry has lacked proper support and a clear development plan for many years. To fix this, President Mahama promised to establish a Cashew Development Board. The board will handle issues such as fair pricing, market access, processing, and research to support cashew farmers.
According to him, building a local factory to process cashew nuts will help keep more of the money made from the crop within the region. “By processing our cashew locally, we can create jobs and retain more of the wealth here,” he said.
He explained that this move is part of a bigger plan to industrialise agriculture and grow local economies across the country.
