Sammy Gyamfi treated unfairly in dollar gift saga - Lawyer Martin Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu says Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of Goldbod Group, was not given fair treatment over the recent controversy involving a dollar gift given to evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Agradaa.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Keypoint show on Saturday, May 17, 2025, Kpebu said the way Gyamfi’s case was handled showed signs of political bias. He believes that members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were quick to react because they wanted to shift attention away from the Cecilia Dapaah scandal.
“Sammy Gyamfi did not receive a fair hearing. The NPP were quick to get off the blocks because they are looking for a case to equalize the Cecilia Dapaah issue,” Kpebu said.
He explained that in the Cecilia Dapaah case, large amounts of money were found in her home, which she could not properly explain. At first, she said the money came from cosmetic businesses, but investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revealed the businesses were not hers. Later, she claimed the money belonged to her late brother, but she later withdrew that explanation as well.
Kpebu argued that these two situations are very different and should not be treated the same. He referred to Ghana’s Anti-Money Laundering Act (Act 1044), which says that if a person is found with property or income beyond their known sources, the law assumes it may be money laundering unless proven otherwise.
