A heavily armed joint team of National Security operatives and police officers has raided the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ghana’s main opposition party.
The security team arrived at the house on Friday, May 22, 2025 and has surrounded the building. So far, they have not explained the reason behind the raid. It is also not clear if Chairman Wontumi is inside the house.
Early this year, Akonta Mining which is believed to be owned by chairman Wontumi’s licence was revoked for engaging in illegal mining activities which led to the distraction of forest reserves.
