1st State Level Health Employees Badminton Championship 2025 was commenced today in Namchi District.

Marking a significant milestone in the history of the state, the 1st State Level Health Employees Badminton Championship commenced today at the Indoor Stadium, Namchi.
The event is being held as part of the National Doctor's Day 2025 celebration and to commemorate the 50th Glorious Years of Statehood.
The theme for this year National Doctor’s Day is ‘Behind the mask who heals the healers’.
The opening day of the championship was graced by Director cum CMO DAR SN Adhikari and Principal Chief Consultant, President Organising Committee Dr D Dewkota who served as the chief guest for the day.
Also present were DRCHO cum chairperson of the tournament, Dr B K Chauhan, Technical head cum State Badminton Coach Mr Sameer Gurung, all officials and staff members of Namchi District Hospital and Badminton Association Namchi.
To mark the first day, both chief guests formally inaugurated the tournament with an enthusiastic opening round.
Dr D Dewkota, expressed that this was the first time such a state-level badminton championship was being organised exclusively for health employees. He encouraged all participants to give their best in the games.
Dr S N Adhikari, highlighted that the tournament is a special initiative to commemorate the state’s golden jubilee and to celebrate Doctor’s Day in a unique way by promoting sports and wellness among health workers.
He extended his best wishes to the participants from all districts and urged them to enjoy the two day tournament.
Dr B K Chauhan, spoke on the significance of National Doctor’s Day, commemorating the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, a distinguished physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal.
He emphasised the importance of self-care for healthcare professionals and noted, “Sports is also a form of medicine”. He also commended the inclusion of a sports event as a step towards promoting physical well-being among health staff.
The tournament was organised by Namchi District Hospital and Technical partner Badminton Association Namchi.
The tournament has been divided into two categories:
i) Doctors Category
ii) Open Category
Following under two categories included of total eight events; MD, MD 40+, XD, WD, MS: Open, MD: Open, XD: Open, WD: Open.
It may be noted that the finals of the tournament will be held on 1st July.
