Government and Community Support for Bereaved and Abducted Families

Families of seven individuals, who were abducted over two weeks ago along the Abuja–Offa highway near Osi and Obbo Aiyegunle in Kwara State, Nigeria, are appealing for assistance in securing their release. The victims, comprising both men and women returning from Abuja to Offa, were kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday, April 19, 2025, and remain in captivity.
A source familiar with the situation reported that the victims are enduring severe hardship, with a 60-year-old woman among them who can no longer walk due to the harsh conditions of being moved through the forest. Security operatives have advised the families to pay the ransom, and they are seeking help from the government, House of Assembly, traditional rulers, and well-meaning individuals.
Mr. Rasaq Olayinka Jimoh, representing the affected families, expressed deep concern over the prolonged detention, stating that while other captives kidnapped after their relatives have been freed, their loved ones remain in the hands of their abductors. The families are suffering emotionally, psychologically, and financially due to the incident.
In a separate incident, the United Party for National Development (UPND) in Zambia has pledged support to the family of three children who died in a house fire in Kabanana Ward, Mandevu Constituency. During a visit to the funeral at Chipata SDA Church, UPND Lusaka Province Vice Youth Chairperson Mr. Godfrey Chitanga, along with other party leaders, announced a donation of 60 buses and three caskets to assist with the burial.
Mr. Chitanga conveyed condolences from President Hakainde Hichilema, emphasizing the President's mourning with the family, constituency, and nation. Mr. Ndhovu, UPND Mandevu Constituency Chairperson, noted the sorrow in the community, while UPND aspiring candidate Mr. Ross Josphat Kasikili called the loss a national tragedy. Mr. Aaron Mulope reminded the community of the fragility of life and urged spiritual preparedness. The UPND delegation also provided food items to the family.
The funeral continues at Chipata SDA Church in Chipata Compound, where mourners are gathering to pay their final respects.
