Go time for Meghan Markle - by Allie Jones - Gossip Time

Published 2 months ago4 minute read

Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: a duchess gets a TV show, an actress gets a tattoo, and my friends get knocked out by Hilary Duff’s new candle.

After a lifetime of delays, Meghan Markle’s lifestyle and cooking show, With Love, Meghan, is set to premiere on Netflix on Tuesday. The Duchess of Sussex has also promised that her jam-centric brand formerly known as AMERICAN RIVIERA ORCHARD will launch sometime after that. It’s called As Ever now. Perhaps you saw Meg’s explanation of what that phrase means on her newly active Instagram account:

It is disappointing that Ms. Markle was unable to get a single product ready to go for the launch of the show, especially considering that Netflix has apparently invested in the brand. Maybe she will surprise us on Tuesday, and we’ll be able to buy something off of our TVs (my dream). In the meantime, here’s the first teaser clip from With Love, in which Meg prepares some kind of appetizer plate with chef Roy Choi:

Eeeeep. I’ve never heard so much silence in chat show before. Ah well. I’m sure Netflix is holding back the best bits.

Just in case everything doesn’t go to plan with all of this, Meghan and Prince Harry announced today that they have hired a new chief communications officer named Meredith Maines. My best to her.

As love and with ever,

A

Speaking of women embracing new challenges, Jessica Alba revealed this week that she got a tattoo in the midst of her divorce from Cash Warren:

It says “life is transformation is life.” Deep. This echoes Alba’s initial divorce announcement back in January, in which she proclaimed that she had been “on a journey of self-realization and transformation” that ultimately led to her split from her husband of 16 years.

Alba was inked by the Instagram-famous tattoo artist Daniel Winter, who has produced some of the most profound celebrity tattoos in recent memory. Shortly after her quickie divorce from Grant Hughes and the public reveal of her affair with soccer star Ashlyn Harris, Sophia Bush visited Winter for an elbow tattoo that reads, “IN PROGRESS.” Matt Damon has a Winter tattoo that says “Nomad,” which is, of course, “Damon” spelled backwards. Imagine what this guy could dream up for Blake Lively.

STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: For Galentine’s Day, I sent two of my best pals, Mariah Smith and Caity Weaver, a candle from Hilary Duff’s new-ish fragrance company Below 60. This company used to exclusively sell plug-in air fresheners, but now they have expanded to candles, perhaps because no one wants plug-in air fresheners.

“We are making everyday [sic] a fragrant celebration of home, happiness, and all the little joys life has to offer,” says Duff on Below60.com.

Of course, I asked my girls to review the candle, which retails for $37.99, for this newsletter. From Caity:

Whatever this candle is made of is one of the most potent materials in the universe. I can’t imagine what scientists originally developed it for — slathering on space-bound satellites to protect them from solar radiation? Dissolving bones? — but it feels irresponsible to have such a concentrated substance exposed to the open air in my home. None of the text printed on the candle relates to any of the other text. “BELOW 60,” it reads. Then in all lowercase: “spearmint & fennel.” Beneath that, in all caps: “MY LOVE LANGUAGE IS…” There is zero chance Hilary Duff would ever allow this object into her residence, let alone permit it to be set aflame there. But it was a nice gift, Allie, thank you.

And from Mariah:

This may be one of the most scented candles I’ve ever experienced just sitting in the box. I feel it in my throat, and I’m on my couch, and it’s on the kitchen counter. It will last forever, because it simply never needs to be burned to be effective.

It’s a hit!

Finally, I’ll leave you with a few of the celebrity tributes to Michelle Trachtenberg, who died unexpectedly Wednesday morning:

Our Harriet! We’ll miss you.

Thanks so much for opening this email. And thank you especially to paid subscribers! Your contributions keep this operation running, and I love you.
