Gloria Sarfo's Acting Career

Popular Ghanaian actress, Gloria Osei Sarfo, has recently shared some of the profound challenges she has encountered throughout her career, including a particularly unsettling incident where she experienced sudden paralysis during a series of movie shoots. In an appearance on the April 12, 2025, episode of United Showbiz, Sarfo engaged in a discussion about spiritual sabotage within Ghana’s creative arts sector, revealing that her journey has been far from easy, but her resolve remains unshaken. "I’ve had challenges; it hasn’t been an easy ride. But the good things are also coming, so they are outweighing the bad," she stated.
Sarfo recounted a shocking incident from years ago when she was scheduled to shoot several movies in Kumasi. "I remember a time when I had a gig to shoot four movies in Kumasi. I finished the first one, and I had to dash to Accra to see my family and go then back to Kumasi to continue filming," she explained. "Just as soon as I was getting ready to go back to Kumasi. I discovered I couldn’t move. I was paralysed for no reason. When that happened, my family members had to quickly pray for me before rushing me to the hospital. It was a sister who lived in Kumasi who had to send my luggage back to Accra," she added, detailing the sudden and inexplicable paralysis she experienced.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the cause of her paralysis, Sarfo believes that resentment from some industry peers due to her success may have played a role. "There was a time a director told me they get sponsors only because of my name. So, many people felt like I was doing something. But it was all God’s grace," she shared. She also recalled an instance when a fellow actress questioned her about securing ambassadorial deals, to which Sarfo replied that it was a result of hard work and that the same opportunity would come for her colleague as well.
In response to gospel musician Cwesi Oteng's comments regarding spiritual sabotage among colleagues in the gospel music industry, Sarfo stated, "What he said could be true. There was a time when he was the biggest thing in the gospel music industry. Even the established gospel artistes were coming to greet him. All we have to do is to just believe in God."
Gloria Sarfo also attributes her continued relevance in the movie industry to her steadfast commitment to prayer. She acknowledged the trials and tribulations she has faced but emphasized that her faith in God has been a guiding light throughout her career. Sarfo highlighted the importance of prayer and faith in navigating the challenges of the entertainment industry. "I’ve been through trials, and people will be shocked when I talk about it. But you see, the good things are coming, so they outweigh the bad ones. Even the bad ones manifest so that the will of God will also come true," she explained.
Sarfo elaborated on the incident in Kumasi, saying, "I was in Kumasi to film; I did about four films at a go. I prepared myself and went in, so after the first film, I had to quickly dash to Accra and go back. I got stuck in Accra. I got paralyzed, and so I had to call someone in Kumasi to bring my things. Even with Efiewura, people thought I was using juju because of the love I received from shooting that series. I prayed and also went to the hospital to ensure that I got well," she concluded, underscoring her reliance on both faith and medical care.
