Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga had issued a statement criticising the Kenya Kwanza government over police brutality.

However, the press statement has since been deleted from Wanga's social media handles, raising questions on whether the governor had second thoughts.

The now-deleted statement expressed grief over the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody.

Wanga further called out the increased police brutality and extrajudicial killings, stating that ODM did not sign up for that.

"Our support for the broad-based government does not extend to extrajudicial killing and police brutality. We draw the line on extrajudicial executions. Illegal and unconstitutional repression is not part of the agreement," Wanga's statement read in part.

Wanga stated that just when they are mourning Ojwang's death, another man identified as Calvins Omondi was found dead in a police cell.

She additionally cited the incidents where a mask vendor, Boniface Kariuki and Philip Oketch were shot during demonstrations in Nairobi CBD.

The governor stated that these incidents underscored the extent of police brutality in the country.

"Today, we stand united in grief and outrage as our nation confronts a wave of police brutality, impunity and extrajudicial killings. The tragic killing of our son, Albert Ojwang in police custody has shaken our collective national conscience. Yet, as we mourn Albert, another family in Mbita is shattered by the death of Calvins Omondi Onditi, a 36-year-old fisherman who allegedly "hanged himself' with his trousers at Kipasi Police Post, Mbita. The post-mortem at the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital will reveal the truth," Wanga's statement read.
"Today, Gabriel Mwita Chacha, 34 years old, has been brought to the County Referral Hospital with life-threatening injuries arising from a police beating in Ringiti Island," Wanga said.

While calling for the perpetrators of the extrajudicial killings to be brought to book, Wanga stated that Kenyans have already heard enough.

She also called for the prosecution of all the police officers involved in cases of brutality and extra-judicial killings, including Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat.

"The Kenya Police Service must carry its own cross."

This is not the first time Wanga has called out the Kenya Kwanza regime.

While speaking on May 3 at Kasipul during the funeral of MP Charles Ong'ondo Were, the vocal politician boldly stated that ODM did not sign up for assassinations.

She stated that Were had reported concerns about his safety to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, but did not receive any assistance.
