Accra, June 30, GNA – Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has described the ongoing GJA elections as the “smoothest process ever,” expressing deep satisfaction with its conduct.

Speaking at the International Press Centre polling station, where 78 out of 303 expected voters had cast their ballots by late morning, he praised the peaceful nature of the election.

“This has been the smoothest or the most smoothest process ever,” he stated, drawing a contrast between the 2025 polls and past elections.

Mr. Dwumfour, who served as GJA president from 2023 to 2025, is seeking re-election and faces a challenge from Mr. Charls Yao Mawusi, a media trainer.

Reflecting on his past involvement in GJA elections in 2017 and 2022, he noted significant improvements in the current process, stating that the period leading up to the polls—from campaigning to voting day—had been smooth and successful.

“Today, I can tell you that, from the beginning of the process to now, it has been very, very smooth. We haven’t received any backlash,” he said.

Mr. Dwumfour acknowledged that previous elections were marred by legal disputes, financial hurdles, and issues with voter registration and membership data.

In contrast, he said the present exercise had avoided such challenges.

“For me, as the president and as the leader of the association, this is what I was expecting. I was expecting a smooth process. I want an election devoid of any confusion, devoid of any election malpractices, or whatever,” he added.

Mr. Dwumfour commended the Elections Committee for their coordination and praised the Electoral Commission for its collaborative role in ensuring a seamless process.

After touring several polling stations, he expressed optimism about the conclusion of the elections.

“I can tell you that we are going to end this election smoothly. We are going to end it peacefully. We are going to end it successfully. There’s no going to be skirmishes. There’s no going to be irregularities. There’s no going to be friction. There’s no going to be tension,” he said.

Mr. Dwumfour assured GJA members and the public of the association’s commitment to a transparent, credible, and peaceful democratic process.
