"'Ghanaians Will Show Him the Red Card' - MP's Chilling Warning to Mahama Over Anti-LGBT plus Bill

The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has warned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could face a crushing defeat in the 2028 general elections if President John Dramani Mahama fails to sign the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill popularly known as the Anti-LGBT+ bill should he return to power as reported by Ghana Web

Speaking in a recent interview with Kafui Dey, Rev. Fordjour, who is also a co-sponsor of the bill, stressed that the legislation has become a critical issue among the Ghanaian electorate.

He cautioned that any president who fails to take a firm stance on the matter risks losing public trust, even if they are not seeking re-election.

“This bill speaks to the conscience of the Ghanaian people,” he said, adding that political parties cannot afford to ignore public sentiment surrounding the issue.

According to Rev. Fordjour, Mahama’s previous public opposition to LGBTQ+ practices has set expectations among supporters.

A reversal or failure to act on the bill, he warned, could be interpreted as betrayal. “If he doesn’t sign it, it will be the Ghanaian people who show him the red card,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has confirmed that the bill will be reintroduced for its first reading in the current parliamentary session.

The bill seeks to outlaw LGBTQ+ activities and the promotion or funding of such causes in Ghana.
