Ghana to Launch Centralized Portal for 16,000 Digital Government Services
According to the Minister’s statement during an Accra briefing, the revamped platform results from collaboration between his Ministry and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA). This initiative aims to fundamentally transform citizen and business interactions with the state by centralizing service delivery digitally.
Minister George stated the platform is undergoing “comprehensive re-engineering” to modernize access. He confirmed the redesigned site will launch after the public tender process concludes. Key features include markedly faster access, mandatory integration with the national Ghana Card for identity verification, and an intuitive interface designed for ease of use by all segments of the population and businesses, eliminating the need for physical visits for core services.
The scale is unprecedented, targeting 16,000 distinct services. These will encompass passport and driver’s license applications, tax payments, birth registrations, utility bill management, business licensing, and numerous other public functions. The Ghana Card linkage is expected to enhance security, reduce fraudulent activities, and enable personalized service delivery for registered users across this vast digital service ecosystem.
Simultaneously, Minister George addressed digital citizenship concerns, announcing the near-completion of the National Misinformation and Disinformation Bill. He stated this legislation would be laid before Parliament soon, emphasizing it seeks to balance combating harmful online falsehoods with protecting constitutional rights to free expression. The Bill is framed as promoting responsible digital engagement alongside the infrastructure upgrades.
Collectively, these actions represent the Mahama administration’s push towards a digitally inclusive state. Minister George articulated the vision as creating “frictionless, citizen-driven, and future-proof” public service delivery. The upgraded Ghana.Gov platform will be rolled out in phases following procurement and integration, positioning Ghana among Africa’s leaders in digital governance innovation upon full deployment.
