Seidu Issifu is the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability

The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, has announced plans by the government to establish a Climate and Sustainability Hub to lead climate advocacy and position Ghana at the center of climate discussions on the continent.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement on Friday, May 30, 2025, the minister indicated that the establishment of the hub would be the first of its kind in West Africa, signaling the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and attracting financial inflows into the country.

“My vision is to establish a Climate and Sustainability Hub in Ghana. The hub will spearhead climate action, build capacity, and lead advocacy. It will drive research, conduct laboratory work, and champion initiatives that can attract funding and increase financial inflows into the country,” he said.

The minister added that the hub will not only enhance Ghana’s climate resilience but also position the country as a climate innovation leader in the sub-region.

“This hub will take the lead in the sub-region. This is the first time Ghana has a Minister of State specifically in charge of climate change and sustainability. Even in West Africa, we don’t see this anywhere else,” he noted.

According to Issifu, the creation of the Ministry for Climate Change and Sustainability reaffirms President John Mahama’s commitment to addressing the risks posed by climate change and promoting sustainable development.

“His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is fully aware of the challenges of climate change. He understands the importance of sustainability and the fact that, if nothing is done, the progress we’ve made over the years could be eroded. That is why he has taken this leadership role,” he added.
