Ghana Nurses Association-DFW embark on medical mission to Tamale

Published 3 days ago2 minute read

Founded in 2008 by six nurses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas, GNA-DFW comprises registered nurses, nurse practitioners, a radiology technician, and an ultrasound technician. The association is dedicated to advocating for health equity, mobilising medical supplies for rural clinics, and supporting institutions facing resource constraints.

This year’s mission will focus on Tamale Teaching Hospital, which has already received a 20-foot container of hospital supplies and equipment from the group. The team will also conduct free health screening and counselling services in communities in Yapei and Tamale.

According to the association, their biennial medical missions aim to provide not just supplies but also skills transfer and emotional support. Members of the association collaborate with local healthcare workers to share knowledge, encourage one another, and strengthen the delivery of care.

Over the years, GNA-DFW has supported several institutions including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Ho Teaching Hospital, as well as Pantang and Ho Nursing Training Colleges. During each visit, the team also engages with nursing students to offer mentorship and encouragement.

The 2025 mission will be undertaken by a 14-member delegation from Dallas comprising Gloria Dattey (President), Becky Oteng-Mensah (Vice-President), Nana Kankam (Media Executive), Joan Asafo-Agyei (Founder), Linda Anie (Co-Founder), Margaret Quartey-Papafio, Mavis Armah, Robert Henking, Franklina Asabre, Larissa Kankam, Jordan Kankam (Medical Student), Dr Grace Darko, Alice Mprah, and Dr Gifty Twumasi.

The association extended special appreciation to Mrs Nana Ama Adomako, their liaison in Ghana, as well as The Grace Foundation and Readers Bay Foundation, for their support in making the initiative possible.
