Muntu, a former army commander, shared a screenshot of Kainerugaba discussing the detention of Eddie Mutwe, the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) security head.

Kainerugaba confirmed Mutwe’s custody days after his disappearance.

On April 26, 2025, Mariam Wangadya, chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, wrote to Kainerugaba, demanding the release of Mutwe, whose full name is Edward Rogers Ssebuufu, citing unlawful detention.

The letter warned of contempt charges under Article 53(1)(d) of the Constitution.

In response, Kainerugaba shared the letter on X, writing, “LOL! If these people value the lives we gave them, they MUST NEVER even think of sending me such a STUPID letter again! This is their last warning! I expect an apology.”

Mutwe, later released, appeared before Masaka Grade One Magistrate Abdullah Kayiza. Struggling to walk, he needed police help to enter court.

Prosecutors charged him with robbery and aggravated robbery, linked to an alleged crime in Manja, Lwengo district. These charges resemble those against NUP activists Acleo Kivumbi, Wasabi, and Gafaffi. Mutwe’s lawyers claimed he suffered severe torture, including electrocution, beatings with cables, and daily abuse of his private parts.

The court remanded him to Masaka Prison, sparking fury among NUP supporters who see the charges as targeting opposition figures.

Kainerugaba also vowed to arrest NUP leader Bobi Wine, posting on X, “We arrested KB, then Eddie Mutwe, now I am promising you Kabobi. You still think these are jokes? I haven’t started!”

In another post, he added, “I did nothing to Eddie...I am coming for that illiterate buffoon called Kabobi! I will abduct him very soon!”
