Gap and Malbon Golf Collaborate on Capsule Collection and Invitational Event

A significant collaboration between golf lifestyle brand Malbon Golf and iconic American retailer Gap was unveiled at the first-ever Malbon x Gap Invitational. Held at the prestigious Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey, a private Donald Ross design renowned for hosting multiple PGA TOUR stops and a major USGA event, the invitational served as the launchpad for their new limited-edition capsule collection. This event, while showcasing Malbon's proven expertise in experiential golf, carried a distinct flavor influenced heavily by Gap's involvement.

The branding at the Plainfield Country Club event struck a refined balance, being understated yet intentional. A custom banner beneath the club's entrance sign—a rare sight for such a traditional venue—along with custom tee markers, co-branded flags, and drinkware, effectively brought the collaborative identity to life without overpowering the classic setting. While perhaps not the most extravagantly produced event by Malbon standards, every detail felt carefully considered, reflecting Gap's signature touch.

At the heart of the invitational was the preview of the 33-piece limited-edition collection, meticulously designed to celebrate timeless style across generations. Uniquely, this Malbon collaboration was manufactured by Gap. The pieces masterfully blended Gap's heritage brand’s vintage sensibilities with Malbon's contemporary, modern fits. This fusion was evident in design elements such as washed-out plaids, classic rugby stripes, faded knits, and a cleverly conceived “PAR” logo rendered in Gap’s iconic serif font. Despite these classic influences, the slouchy silhouettes and dropped shoulders ensured the collection remained unmistakably Malbon.

The versatile 33-piece lineup, designed for both men and women, merges Malbon’s signature golf aesthetic with Gap’s prep-inspired essentials. It features a range of apparel including fleece, knits, polos, vests, and jackets, alongside accessories. The custom PAR logo, a game-inspired play on the iconic Gap arch logo, is a prominent feature, complemented by classic stripes, plaid, and herringbone accents. The collection is accessibly priced, with items ranging from $18 to $138.

The crowd attending the invitational reflected the collection's theme of blending heritage with contemporary edge. Golf culture tastemakers like Nikki Blades mingled with prominent figures from the wider fashion and media spheres, including Jimmy from Throwing Fits, Mark Boutilier, and Davis Burleson from Whatspoppin. The presence of celebrity athletes such as Michael Strahan and CC Sabathia further underscored the expanding cultural reach of golf.

Complementing the collection is a campaign titled "Generation Golf," shot by Duncan Wolfe. This campaign captures the evolving face of the sport through a family lens, prominently featuring five-time PGA Tour winner Jesper Parnevik, long considered a fashion disruptor in golf, alongside his children, Peg and Phoenix. This choice echoes the multi-generational narrative woven throughout the collection, celebrating timeless style across different age groups.

In the "Generation Golf" campaign, Jesper Parnevik showcases key pieces such as the Linen-Cotton Bomber Jacket with matching Pleated Baggy Shorts, a Utility Vest paired with Pleated Baggy Pants, and a French Terry Logo Hoodie. Peg Parnevik is featured in standout items like the Cropped Polo Sweater, a Linen-Cotton Plaid Pleated Mini Skort, and a Cable-Knit Sweater. Phoenix Parnevik sports items including the Logo Striped Polo Shirt, a Polo Sweater, and a Logo Graphic T-Shirt, illustrating the collection's versatility.

Mark Breitbard, President and CEO of Gap brand, highlighted the collaboration's strategic importance: "Malbon has fostered a vibrant culture around the game of golf, allowing us to engage a new customer and bring together our two communities in a fresh way. Our collaboration with Malbon represents the unique intersection of fashion, sports, and culture, offering a new opportunity for self–expression, on or off the golf course, through the lens of beloved Gap icons."

Echoing this enthusiasm, Malbon founders Erica and Stephen Malbon stated, "We grew up with Gap, so the opportunity to collaborate and bridge golf culture with Gap’s heritage is incredibly exciting. Gap defines what an American brand can look like — it's where fashion and functionality collide — so we are thrilled that each and every piece reflects, authentically, the DNA of both brands."

For both Gap and Malbon, the invitational was more than just a product launch; it was a definitive statement about the future trajectory of golf style and a declaration of their role in shaping it. The event and the collection together signal a new era where fashion and golf converge, appealing to a broader, style-conscious audience.

The much-anticipated Malbon x Gap collection is set to launch on Friday at 12PM ET, and will be available via both Malbon and Gap platforms.
