Forum Members Review the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2025 Collection From Maria Grazia Chiuri
Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week is now in full swing. Today, mid-afternoon in Paris, Maria Grazia Chiuri presented the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2025 collection. The show marked MGC’s 18th couture collection at the helm of the iconic French fashion house, since joining as creative director in 2016. Amid rampant rumors of her departure, the Italian designer invited guests, as per usual, to the Museé Rodin and into a show space with walls lined with artwork from artist Rithika Merchant. Models emerged backstage sporting feather Mohawks, panniers and crinolines, and voluminous outerwear – each boasting intricate embroideries. Maria Grazia Chiuri ultimately sought inspiration from the “Trapèze” line from 1958 and the “Cigale” silhouette of Monsieur Dior himself.
“I skipped to the end to see the looks in the finale and what a sad display this was. The shoes made it all the worse.” [Cocteau Stone]
“CANNOT wait for her to go.” [Scotty]
“It occurred to me that she, as a designer bringing her identity to a grand house, almost brought too much of herself. A lot of the show staging she has done was more artisanal, more Italian by nature. And Dior is more about refinement and structure, in my eyes. The artwork that was on the walls of the show, as has been included in other seasons- it’s just a mismatch for me.” [jeremydante]
“All I can say is if Maria Grazia Chiuri wasn’t out of a job before this collection, she definitely is/should be now. Probably the worst collection from her and that is saying a lot considering she’s had several to hit that mark of being the worst. She and this collection looked more sad (and rough) and in her feelings, too. I just wonder when they will announce her departure!” [Salvatore]
“I don’t mind this collection at all, and think there are beautiful gowns and couture-worth work in here.” [Ihhbl]
“I actually loved this collection – with the exception of a small number of pieces, everything felt really light and airy, especially the tailoring, which is what i suppose couture should be.” [Kennnnn]
