The Florida Gators and UConn Huskies are set to clash once again in the Jimmy V Classic, which will be held on December 9 at Madison Square Garden.
The last time these two teams met was in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, when Florida pulled off a nail-biting 77-75 victory in the second round, knocking the Huskies out and ending their bid for a third straight national championship. With UConn looking for redemption, this rematch could be one of the most anticipated non-conference games of the upcoming season.
UConn enters the season with big expectations, despite last year’s early exit. Head coach Dan Hurley returns Alex Karaban, a key piece from their title-winning teams, and has added transfers Malachi Smith and Silas Demary Jr. to strengthen the roster. The Huskies are aiming to reclaim their dominance after a disappointing finish in March.
Florida, on the other hand, won the tournament last year and is looking to build on that success. The Gators have reloaded with impact transfers and recruits, setting up what could be another strong season in Gainesville.
The Jimmy V Classic, an annual event benefiting cancer research, has a history of delivering high-quality matchups, and this one should be no different. With both teams stacked with talent, expect an intense battle in New York.
For UConn, it’s a shot at payback. For Florida, it’s a chance to prove they’re still among the nation’s elite. No matter the outcome, fans are in for must-watch basketball when these two teams meet again in December.
